Penn State quarterback Drew Allar did not play in the second half of the No. 3 Nittany Lions’ 28-13 win at Wisconsin. Broadcast cameras showed him standing on Penn State’s sideline without a helmet and with a towel over his head as backup Beau Pribula led the offense out.

Allar suffered an apparent lower body injury near the end of the first half. He went to Penn State’s locker room with team trainers moments before halftime. He did try warming up before the third quarter began, but had extensive conversations with Penn State’s coaching staff before removing his helmet and remaining on the bench.

Penn State hosts No. 4 Ohio State on Nov. 2 in one of the biggest games of the year.

Prior to exiting the game, Allar completed 14 of his 18 pass attempts for 148 yards and Penn State’s only touchdown, a 6-yard strike to running back Nicholas Singleton. The Nittany Lions trailed 10-7 at halftime but won outscored Wisconsin 21-3 in the second half. A pick-six helped the cause, but Pribula was wickedly efficient, completing 11 of 13 passes for 98 yards, one touchdown and, crucially on the road, no interceptions.

Pribula is an experienced backup, as Penn State often utilizes special offensive packages making the most of his athleticism. Pribula signed in 2022 as a three-star quarterback but spent his freshman year playing wideout and safety for the Nittany Lions. Back at QB, he has appeared in all seven games this season.

“He’s a winner,” coach James Franklin said of Pribula in the postgame pres conference. “He accepts his role, battling every week to be the starting quarterback. He makes plays with his feet and his mind and his arms. I couldn’t be more proud of him. A big-time player and he’s unselfish in a time in college football that a lot of guys are selfish.”
