Tuesday’s MLB schedule is packed with matchups that will go a long way in determining pennant races and playoff seedings, highlighted by an AL showdown between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees at 7:05 p.m. ET. According to the latest MLB odds at DraftKings, the Yankees are -156 favorites, while the Tigers are +128 underdogs, but the SportsLine model finds the best value from this matchup in backing a total for online sports betting.
The model is playing Over 8.5 runs scored in Tigers vs. Yankees on Tuesday. The SportsLine model projects the Over to hit in 61.8% of simulations, making it one of its Tuesday MLB best bets at DraftKings Sportsbook. Tigers vs. Yankees Over 8.5 total runs (-104)
The Yankees are the No. 1 scoring offense in baseball, averaging 5.24 runs per game, and their bats have fueled an 11-3 record over their last 14 games. New York is averaging 6.4 runs over its last 14 games heading into a crucial series against the Tigers. Detroit starter Casey Mize allowed one run over five innings against the Mets in his last start, but in his three starts before then, the 28-year-old had a 7.04 ERA. The Tigers also have a top-10 offense, averaging 4.83 runs per game (ranking eighth), and Yankees starter Will Warren has a 4.28 ERA this season. The model projects the Over to hit in 61.8% of simulations.
Nationals (+104) to defeat the Marlins
You probably didn’t realize it, but the Nationals are one of the hottest teams in baseball. Washington has won six of its last seven games, including a 15-7 win over the Marlins on Monday. The Nationals took two of three games against the Cubs, who are one of just four teams in the National League with at least 80 wins, over the weekend. Washington first baseman Josh Bell is hitting .300 with three home runs over his last six games to pace the offense. The Nationals are starting Mitchell Parker, who started in a 10-5 win over Miami on Wednesday in his last start. The Marlins are starting Adam Mazur, who allowed five runs (four earned) over six innings in a 5-2 loss to Washington on Tuesday. The Nationals win in 52% of simulations, showcasing value in this 6:40 p.m. ET start.
Astros vs. Blue Jays Over 8.5 total runs (-110)
The Astros have gone Over this total in three of their last five games, while the Blue Jays have gone Over this number in five of their last seven contests. Toronto is fourth in baseball in runs (5.0 runs per game), and the Astros are starting Luis Garcia, who is making just his second start of the season after coming back from Tommy John surgery in May 2023. Garcia was originally scheduled to start Sunday, but the Blue Jays moved his start to Tuesday. The bump-back reportedly wasn’t due to injury concerns, but it’s rarely great for a pitcher to go off schedule. The Blue Jays are starting Jose Berrios, who allowed six runs over two innings against the Reds on Tuesday in his last start. Only two of the runs were earned, but Over/Under results don’t differentiate between earned and unearned runs, and hitters had success against Berrios last week. The model projects the Over to hit in 60.5% of simulations.
