NFL Week 2 injury report: 49ers’ Brock Purdy ‘long shot to play’ due to left shoulder and toe injury

The 2025 NFL season is in full swing, and Week 2 is on the horizon. As is the case every week, injuries are slated to play a major role over the course of the second week of the regular season, which includes the San Francisco 49ers, who continue to get bludgeoned, this time revolving around quarterback Brock Purdy

As most clubs get back on the field on Wednesday, it’s as good a time as ever to check in on the initial injury reports. Below, we’ll dive into those reports while also getting a final look and a check at the game statuses for Thursday’s heavyweight bout between the Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers.

Washington Commanders at Green Bay Packers (-3.5) (Thursday)

Washington has a relatively healthy injury report coming into Week 2 with just two players listed as questionable. While both Way and Wise were able to practice on Wednesday in a limited capacity, Wise was listed as a full participant on both Monday and Tuesday. That may be looked at as Wise trending in the wrong direction, but it’s worth noting that the Commanders held walkthroughs to begin the week, and those first two designations were an estimation.

Both Tom and Banks suffered their injuries in the opener against Detroit. They were both listed as non-participants this week at practice, but head coach Matt LaFleur did note that they are each game-time decisions.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5)

Jacksonville listed just four players on the initial injury report, and two — offensive linemen Cole Van Lanen (shoulder) and Anton Harrison (back) — were full participants. The lone missing player was fellow lineman Wyatt Milum (knee), while corner Montaric Brown (ankle) was limited.

The Bengals had an even smaller injury report, with offensive tackle Amarius Mims (ankle) being the lone player limited. Long snapper William Wagner (hamstring) was listed on the injury report but practiced fully.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-5.5)

The Giants did not have defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence to begin the week of practice, but his absence was not injury-related. Linebacker Micah McFadden (foot), receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (ankle), and offensive tackle Andrew Thomas (foot) did not practice due to injury. Linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) and receiver Malik Nabers (back) were limited.

Dallas opened the week with a thin injury report as corner DaRon Bland (foot) was the only player not practicing. Bland having a foot injury is concerning because he missed 10 games with a stress fracture in his foot in 2024. Safety Malik Hooker (foot) was limited.

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-5.5)

The Lions were without linebacker Jack Campbell (ankle) and offensive tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder) on Wednesday, and listed linebacker Trevor Nowaske (elbow) and running back Sione Vaki (hamstring) were limited.

Los Angeles Rams (-5.5) at Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans were without defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat (ankle), safety Quandre Diggs (hand), right tackle JC Latham (hip) and running back Kalel Mullings (ankle) on Wednesday. Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (knee), safety Kevin Winston Jr. (hamstring) and edge rusher Arden Key (pectoral) were all limited.

The Los Angeles Rams had a bunch of key contributors miss practice on Wednesday: wide receiver Davante Adams (vet rest day), offensive lineman Steve Avila (ankle), offensive lineman Kevin Dotson (ankle), tight end Colby Parkinson (shoulder) and offensive lineman Rob Havenstein (ankle). Tight end Davis Allen (knee) was the only limited player.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-1.5)

New England continues to be without Christian Gonzalez as the All-Pro corner, who missed Week 1, and also did not practice on Wednesday due to a nagging hamstring injury. The Patriots were also without linebacker Harold Landry III (foot), offensive tackle Morgan Moses (foot), and defensive end Keion White (illness). Linebackers Christian Ellis (shoulder) and Marte Mapu (neck) were limited, along with receiver Kayshon Boutte (shoulder).

Miami saw a slew of players not suit up for practice on Wednesday with the following notable players all not participating: tight end Darren Waller (hip), running back Jaylen Wright (knee), offensive lineman Austin Jackson (toe). Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (shoulder) and safety Ashtyn Davis (knee) were both limited.

San Francisco 49ers (-3) at New Orleans Saints

The injury bug continues to feast on the 49ers. This time, it’s Brock Purdy. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that the quarterback is a “long shot” to play on Sunday due to a toe and left shoulder injury. Shanahan added that this could be a multi-week absence. If Purdy is, in fact, ruled out, Mac Jones would be slated to start Week 2 vs. New Orleans.

Meanwhile, the Saints were missing Julian Blackmon (shoulder), Taliese Fuaga (knee), Trevor Penning (toe), and Chase Young (calf) to begin the week of practice. Velus Jones Jr. (knee) and Zach Wood (elbow) were limited.

Buffalo Bills (-6.5) at New York Jets

Running back James Cook (hamstring) was limited to begin the week for Buffalo, along with corner Brandon Codrington (knee), tight end Dawson Knox (hip), defensive end Greg Rousseau (knee), and corner Tre’Davious White (groin). Linebacker Shaq Thompson (hamstring, hand) and corner Taron Johnson (quad) did not practice.

New York was missing tight end Mason Taylor (ankle), running back Kene Nwangwu (hamstring), and defensive lineman Jay Tufele (illness) on Wednesday. The team also listed corner Michael Carter II (shoulder), linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball (calf), and offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor (hand) as limited.

Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3)

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a laundry list of key defensive players who didn’t practice on Wednesday: edge rusher T.J. Watt (vet rest day), defensive tackle Derrick Harmon (knee), cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring) and safety DeShon Elliott (knee). A couple more key defenders were limited: defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (vet rest day) and linebacker Nick Herbig (hamstring).

The Seattle Seahawks had just two players miss practice on Wednesday: cornerback Devon Witherspoon (knee) and safety Nick Emmanwori (ankle). Three key defenders were limited: defensive tackle Jarran Reed (back), safety Julian Love (groin) and linebacker Ernest Jones (shoulder).

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens (-11.5)

Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was not at practice on Wednesday because he was meeting with league officials in New York as part of the NFL’s investigation into potential violations under the personal conduct policy. Outside of that, everyone else was accounted for, but the team did list offensive tackle Joel Bitonio (not injury related), offensive tackle Jack Conklin (eye, elbow), defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. (knee), offensive tackle Dawand Jones (knee), and corner Denzel Ward (shoulder, Achilles) as limited.

Baltimore listed tight end Isaiah Likely (foot), defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike (ankle), and fullback Patrick Ricard (calf) as non-participants on Wednesday. Corner Jaire Alexander (knee) was limited.

Denver Broncos (-2.5) at Indianapolis Colts

Colts cornerbacks Charvarius Ward (concussion) and Jaylon Jones (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday, while running back Tyler Goodson (elbow) and defensive end Laiatu Latu (hamstring) were limited.

The Broncos were without linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad), defensive lineman John Franklin-Meyers (knee) and tight end Nate Adkins (ankle) on Wednesday. Tight end Evan Engram (calf) was Denver’s only limited practice participant.

Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals (-6.5)

The Carolina Panthers had a relatively clean injury report on Wednesday: defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton (hamstring) was the only player who didn’t practice. Offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu (illness), edge rusher Patrick Jones II (ankle) and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow (ribs) were the only three players limited

Just three players didn’t practice on Wednesday for the Arizona Cardinals: offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum (vet rest day), tight end Tip Reiman (foot) and inside linebacker Cody Simon (concussion). Punter Blake Gillikin (back) and offensive lineman Will Hernandez (knee) were the only ones limited.

Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5) at Kansas City Chiefs

Receivers Xavier Worthy (shoulder) and Jalen Royals (knee) did not practice on Wednesday. Kansas City also listed guard Trey Smith (knee, illness) and linebacker Drue Tranquill (knee) as limited.

The Philadelphia Eagles were without three players in practice on Wednesday: tight end Dallas Goedert (knee), backup quarterback Tanner McKee (right thumb) and backup running back Will Shipley (oblique). Guard Landon Dickerson (back) and edge rusher Jalyx Hunt (hip) were limited.

Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (-3.5)

The Atlanta Falcons had a couple notable players not practice on Wednesday in safety Jordan Fuller (knee) and wide receiver Jamal Agnew (groin). Four players were limited for Atlanta: wide receiver Darnell Mooney (shoulder), wide receiver Drake London (shoulder), edge rusher James Pearce Jr. (shoulder) and safety DeMarcco Hellams (hamstring).

After playing on “Monday Night Football” in Week 1, the Minnesota Vikings had six players not practice on Wednesday: linebacker Blake Cashman (hamstring), running back Ty Chandler (knee), center Ryan Kelly (toe), tight end Josh Oliver (ankle), edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel (concussion) and cornerback Jeff Okudah (concussion). However, only two players were limited: safety Harrison Smith (illness) and wide receiver Myles Price (knee). Left tackle Christian Darrisaw (knee), who missed Week 1, practiced fully on Wednesday.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Houston Texans (-2.5) (Monday)
