Get ready to groove with the legendary Cherrelle at Mayfest! She’s headlining the event on Saturday, May 18th, at May Park in Augusta, Georgia. The festivities kick off at noon and run until 6:00 pm, with Cherrelle taking the stage at 5:20 pm.

Cherrelle, born Cheryl Norton in Los Angeles, California in 1958, is a soul singer who skyrocketed to fame as one of the premier female R&B divas of the mid-to-late 1980s. Not only is she the cousin of pop singer and TLC founder Perri “Pebbles” Reid, but Cherrelle’s music career began after being discovered by Clarence Avant, founder of Tabu Records, who signed her in 1983.

Under the production genius of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Cherrelle released her debut album “Fragile” in 1984, which went gold, featuring the Top Ten R&B single “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On.” She continued her success with the best-selling album “High Priority” in 1985, boasting hits like “You Look Good to Me” and “Saturday Love,” her iconic duet with Alexander O’Neal.

Throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s, Cherrelle maintained her prominence with hits like “Everything I Miss at Home” and “More than a Woman.” Her collaboration with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis continued to define her sound, culminating in her 1999 album “The Right Time.”

Cherrelle’s influence extends far beyond her own hits; pop icons like Robert Palmer and Mariah Carey have covered her songs, showcasing the enduring appeal of her music. Don’t miss your chance to experience one of R&B’s most iconic voices live at Mayfest!
