English footballer Victor Adeboyejo suffered a back injury that has forced him to miss games due a powerful sneeze, according to his coach. Adeboyejo, who plays for the Bolton Wanderers in League One — the third tier of English soccer — missed Tuesday’s game against Barrow and faces an uncertain timetable to return.
Ian Evatt, Bolton’s manager, stated that Adeboyejo had felt a crack between his ribs, which the team is trying to evaluate the severity of. The hope is that it is only a cartilage or muscle issue. All from a sneeze.
“We have had it scanned and should have the results very soon. Everyone remembers the challenge at Charlton, he was OK at the time. But then he had a pretty hefty sneeze,” Evatt said, per The Bolton News. “Victor is a powerful boy and even his sneezes are powerful.”
Adeboyejo’s injury is the latest in a series of unfortunate developments for Bolton, which has already been missing multiple players due to other injuries. The team has struggled following its loss to Oxford United in its playoff final a season ago.
“I have to start having a long look at myself when players start getting injured sneezing,” Evatt said. “That is just the way things seem to be going at the moment, but we have to deal with it.”
Adeboyejo, 26, plays striker for the Wanderers and has played at the senior level of English football since 2014. During his youth career, Adeboyejo spent time with the academies of Arsenal, AFC Wimbledon, Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient.
