Colorado’s Travis Hunter became the first player to ever win Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the same season following the Buffaloes’ Week 9 win over Cincinnati.
Hunter set single-game career highs for both pass breakups (four) and receiving yards (153) to go along with two touchdowns against the Bearcats. In all, he played 132 snaps in the game, including all 61 snaps on defense. On offense, he has now exceeded his marks for catches, yards and touchdowns from the 2023 season with four regular-season games remaining.
Previously, Hunter earned defensive honors after recording five tackles, an interception and a pass breakup in a dominant 38-9 win over in-state rival Colorado State. He leads the Big 12 with seven pass breakups and has two interceptions during a strong season playing cornerback.
The honors continue to solidify one of the greatest seasons in college football history on both sides of the ball. The junior has played 895 snaps in eight games and cleared 100 snaps six times in eight games. Hunter ranks second in Heisman odds (+270), per FanDuel SportsBook, right behind Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (+230).
A full-time defensive player has not won the Heisman Trophy since Michigan defensive back Charles Woodson in 1997. Woodson also played some offense, but Hunter’s power at both positions is unmatched.
